Great night vision

If you need a camera to surveillance your property, then you probably need it to work properly at night as well. Such an important factor can easily determine whether a camera is right for you or not. Fortunately, the Amcrest IP2M-841 passes the test with flying colors since it’s one of the best around for this purpose. It relies on its infrared LED setup to provide great recording quality at night.

Ease of access

One of the reasons why people opt for a IP security camera is because they are generally easier to setup and manage. That holds true here, as this model is very easy to set up. Moreover, you can use multiple popular platforms such as Android and iOS when it comes to managing the camera. It comes with its own app and it also works on computers, both Windows and Mac. If you want to store the footage on Cloud you can, but it’s going to cost you extra.

Amcrest IP2M-841 ProHD Camera support and no interconnectivity

The camera does a fine job of supporting itself, offering a lot of features such as the 2-way audio support. You can both talk and listen to audio through the camera, and it supports the popular browser options. However, it doesn’t come with support for connecting other smart devices to the camera, which can be a bit of a downer for some. Ultimately it’s safe to assume that the camera does everything you would need it to do without external help. It even sends you alerts on your preferred platform, based on motions, so you always know what’s going down.

Recording and storing

If you don’t want to upload footage to cloud, you can store it to the local microSD card which is a great option to have. When it comes to actual video recording, the camera records Full HD at 1080p resolution and 30 fps. That’s pretty good quality for any device, so it’s, of course, a highlight of the camera. If you do want to store on cloud, you have the option of uploading to the Amcrest cloud service. You actually get 4 hours of free footage storage, which means that you can log in and check your footage whenever, wherever, free of charge. There are multiple subscription plans available but if you don’t want to pay for Cloud, you can do that, and stay within the boundaries of the free 4 hours.

Viewing angles and panning

Amcrest IP2M-841 ProHD doesn’t have the largest viewing angle, with only 90 degrees. It does make up for it through its multiple movement features like tilting and panning. These added perks actually make it a reliable device when it comes to catching everything that’s going on, especially since it can be tilted or panned remotely.  It also features an enhanced zoom option, to round up the kit and make sure that nothing escapes this watchful eye’s vigil.

  • Great night vision
  • Remote tilt/pan and enhanced zoom
  • microSD storage and free cloud storage (up to a point)

  • No interconnectivity with other devices
  • Small base viewing angle of 90 degrees

Amcrest IP2M-841 isn’t perfect, and definitely has some issues such as not being able to connect with other devices, but you can easily pass them off as personal quirks. At the core, this IP camera offers a lot of utility and its high quality makes it a valuable candidate for anyone looking to buy a good WiFi camera.
