Logitech Circle 2 camera features

The Logitech Circle 2 is an upgrade from the previous Logitech Circle Wireless HD version . The new Circle model, however, comes in both wired and wireless options along with other improved features as discussed in this section of the the Logitech Circle 2 review.

Wired and Wireless Options

The Logitech Circle 2 is a small cone-shaped IP camera. It has a sleek and sophisticated appeal at first glance. The camera comes in two versions; wired and wireless, thus giving you options depending on your need. In addition, it is quite multifaceted and can be used both indoors and outdoors, thanks to its weatherproof design.

When you purchase the Logitech Wired Circle 2, you get one camera, a USB power adapter and a 10ft USB cable. On the other hand, the Logitech Wireless Circle 2 has a battery mount instead of the power adapter. The wired version is cheaper than the wireless alternative but the latter is quite versatile. The Logitech Wireless Circle 2 uses a rechargeable 6400mAh Li-ion battery benefits from 2.4GHz/5.0GHz Wi-Fi connectivity.

Setup

Setting up the camera is pretty straightforward. Get the camera out of the box and mount accordingly depending on which version you have bought. While it’s booting, download the Logi Circle app from your app store, turn Bluetooth on and follow the instructions that will appear. The app will show you how to connect your camera to your home Wi-Fi.

Field of view

This is where the Logitech Circle 2 reigns supreme. It has a remarkable field of view of 180 degrees, better than the Netatmo Welcome camera, LG Smart Security model, and other top IP cameras. This view allows room for minimal blind spots around the area of operation. You can zoom up to 8x, but don’t fret too much about the quality once you zoom in.

Automatic night vision

Another impressive feature of this camera. You can virtually view anything in low-light or no light conditions. The video is black and white, like an 80’s movie yet very clear. You get 15ft of night vision with this IP camera.

Two-way communication system

You get a 2-way communication system with the Logitech Circle 2 camera. The mic/speaker accompanying the camera allows you to have a conversation with another party from wherever you are.

Video resolution

Here’s another area where the Logitech Circle 2 scores high marks. It boasts a video resolution of 1920 x 1080p, allowing you to see tiny details might be overlooked by a lower resolution camera. But, you can choose to record at 720p to reduce the usage of your bandwidth.

24-hour free cloud storage

This means you have an extended period to go through your footage without filling up your storage for no reason. Some cameras have a 3-hour free storage plan so the Logitech Circle 2 has a great advantage.

Quick time lapse

Logitech provides you with a quick time lapse of the critical events that took place in the day. This happens in 30 seconds, which makes it easier for you before you sort through the videos.

Weatherproof

Built with a weatherproof cover, this camera is ideal for temperatures ranging from -20 degrees C to 50 degrees C.  The cover is rated IP65, meaning it is dust tight and protected against water projected from a nozzle. Choose carefully which option is good for your outdoors as you might be tasked to drill a hole in your wall for the USB connection.

Data encryption

Your privacy is protected with the instant data encryption, AES 256-bit encrypted footage, which is secure web transfer (SSL). You can change the settings in the app to be notified only when you need to and not as long as you are at home.

The footage is broken down into “events” such as movement or people. This will help you weed out what you want and what you don’t instead of erasing or going through the entire recording.

Extras

You can choose to mount the Logitech Circle 2 camera onto a window to get the outside view. But, you will have to purchase a separate window mount. The downside is, the night vision will not apply as you will need adequate light to capture images.

If you want additional storage time, you will need to purchase a subscription plan. For 14 days footage, you will pay about $4 bi-weekly. You will have to add an extra $10 to the plan for a month’s footage. This can be advantageous if you are going away for an extended period, otherwise, the free plan can do. The monthly plan, however, unlocks advanced security features such as smart alert filters, set motion zones, and person detection.

The IP camera is compatible with Apple Homekit, Logitech Pop, and Amazon Alexa. This versatility enables you to make commands to the camera when you have the necessary products.

Other optional accessories available for this camera include: rechargeable battery housing, plug mount, and weatherproof extension lead and housing. These come at an extra cost – not an easy feat considering the amount you are paying for the IP camera itself.

Pros

  • Straightforward setup
  • High video resolution – 1920 x 1080p
  • Great field of view – 180 degrees
  • Comes in two kits – wired and wireless
  • For use in both indoors and outdoors
  • Benefits from two-way communication system
  • Provides free 24-hour cloud storage
  • Superb night vision

Cons

  • Requires subscription fees for advanced features
  • No memory card
  • Extra costs for accessories

Should you purchase it?

You can find cameras that offer some of the services you pay for the Logitech Circle 2 IP camera for free, yet the features here are hard to beat. The Logitech Circle 2 brings more possibilities to the world of home security than other cheaper models and I believe by now you know if its worth the investment or not.

That’s it from this Logitech Circle 2 review and don’t forget to share your experiences in the comments section below.
